Croatia
There is a tale among Croatians which goes as follows: Having populated the earth, God left a beautiful little corner of it for relaxation. In His generosity, He decided not to reserve enjoyment of the special haven for Himself alone, but rather to populate and share the land with the hospitable, music-loving Croatian people.
• Where is Croatia?
Of course, it’s only a fable, but we think it illustrates everything that Croatia is about: breathtaking natural beauty, crystal clear sea, a wealth of cultural and historical heritage, and the hospitality of its people. With eight national parks, 1,185 islands and exceptional cultural heritage, Croatia’s pleasures are timeless.
In Croatia, a picture is truly worth a thousand words.
Island of Pag
The island of Pag is one of the finest tourist oases on the Croatian Adriatic. Sparse vegetation, a mild climate and bright blue seas combined with culture and traditions that date back to Roman times make it one the region’s most famous and exciting islands for visitors.
Unique for its sparse vegetation and rocky relief on one side, and interspersed vegetation dominated by sage and olive trees on the other, Pag is truly an island with two faces. Sage is the staple diet of Pag’s sheep, which gives a special taste to the island’s acclaimed gastronomic specialties - Pag cheese and Pag lamb. High-quality salt obtained naturally from the transparent sea has been a trademark of the town of Pag for centuries.
The clear, sparkling sea laps at the island’s indented coastline, and it is safe to swim on any side of the island. Being so clean, the waters around the island of Pag are home to many varieties of fish, crab, shellfish and coral, making them ideal for diving enthusiasts.
Jakišnica
Nestled amongst the ancient olive trees on the elongated north-western arm of the island is the small fishing village of Jakišnica. If you want to escape the urban crowds and savour some real tranquillity, this is the place for you. Sample the specialties of Pag cheese, lamb and quality local wines to the music of crickets, and bask in the refreshing calm of this uniquely secluded treasure.
